“Light-based fencing, ” or lightsaber combat, is a widely growing free-form sport. This weapon retains the range and basic principles of a sword mixed with the weight and flexibility of a stick. Due to the design of the weapon producing an “omni-directional” blade that has a light-based edge as opposed to sword’s edge, this makes even the lightest touch a “lethal” blow, letting us play a game that is fast and precise, yet low-impact. In this sport, you will find techniques drawn from a wide variety of fencing styles such as Kendo, Cane Fighting, HEMA, Escrima, as well as a slew of new disciplines developed around the artform now known as “Light-Based Fencing”.
I teach my lightsaber classes with Kyber Combat, which is the #1 provider for all “Light-based fencing” in North Texas. At Kyber Combat we provide quarterly events, weekly “Ranked Play” on Saturdays, as well as Instruction and Tutelage every Wednesday at “Kyber Schola”. Through our lightsaber teachings we strive to refine and promote the general physical fitness of the DFW Metroplex population, utilizing fun athletic and safe saber combat with zero choreography. If you enjoy fencing, or have ever wanted to combine personal artistic expression with competitive play, come have fun with us!

I’m not quite a jedi master yet, and sometimes I still fight with anxiety, but … I can run and fight and do cool stuff, and I don’t have to steel myself for half the morning before making a phone call.
